Striking the Right Balance: Parenting Teens with ADHD
Wednesday, January 24, 2024
7:00 – 8:30 pm
Raising a teen who is striving to be independent but still not yet fully equipped with the skills that allow them to do so can be exhausting, frustrating, and stressful.
In the first event of our Stand with Teens workshop series, we’re focusing on some of the unique challenges that come with parenting teens who have ADHD. Join Sarita Patel, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Center for Children and Youth, to explore how understanding the difficulties your teen faces, as well as their strengths, can help you support them through this phase of their life.
Understanding Today’s Drug Scene, and What it May Mean for your Teens
Thursday, February 22, 2024
7:00 – 8:30 pm
Teen substance misuse looks much different than it did when today’s parents were going through adolescence. At our second Stand with Teens workshop, we’ll hear from Marla Kaufman, founder of Jewish Addiction Awareness Network (now an initiative of BaMidbar, experts in teen and young adult mental health). Marla’s passion for her work is motivated by her own family’s decade-plus experience of navigating resources to support their son’s journey from addiction to recovery. You’ll learn how to open a dialogue with your teens about drug use; gain an understanding of current trends and what to look out for; and build your own toolkit to support your teen or other teens in your community who may be struggling.
Supporting your Teen with Body Image Resilience
Wednesday, March 13, 2024
7:00 – 8:15 pm (PDT)
Being a teen in today’s body-negative culture can be a real challenge for many young people, as well as for their parents as they try to navigate difficult body image messaging. Join our expert facilitators, Kacey Legnitto, MS, an anti-diet Registered Dietitian and Katie Peterman, Psy.D. a licensed psychologist specializing in eating disorders, in a discussion about the cultural influences that impact how teens perceive their bodies. You will learn about building a body–positive environment, and how to bolster your teen’s resilience and support them with tough body image moments. Participants will be invited to share their experiences and ask questions throughout the workshop.
